What is a wealth manager?

A wealth manager is a financial professional who manages clients’ wealth. They provide a comprehensive range of services, such as investment management, financial planning, estate planning, tax services, retirement planning, and more. While wealth managers typically work with high-net-worth individuals and families, they also work with other types of accredited investors, businesses, and individuals seeking personalized strategies that are tailored to their specific financial goals and needs. Wealth managers typically charge their clients fees that tend to be based on the percentage of their assets under management; however, they may also offer fixed fees or have hourly rates for specific services.

The role of a wealth manager goes beyond simple investment advice. They often coordinate with other financial professionals (like accountants and lawyers) to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive wealth-building strategy. Wealth managers also help clients navigate risks by helping them to align their portfolios with their risk tolerances and diversifying accordingly. In addition to investments, wealth managers may help with budgeting and debt management to help clients preserve and grow their wealth, as well.
