What is a net asset value?

Net asset value (NAV) is a financial metric that indicates the per-share value of a fund, such as a mutual fund, exchange-traded fund (ETF), or another pooled investment vehicle.

You can calculate NAV by first subtracting a fund's liabilities from its total assets and then dividing that number by the number of outstanding shares.
